ABOUT

Archangel Uriel.JPG

I ask myself every day,

"What else is possible?"
I was raised in Mexico with both Mexican and Japanese cultural influences, including Catholicism and Buddhist traditions.

My passion for color and texture is evident in my art, which features both elements prominently.

I studied Graphic Design, Fashion Design, and Footwear Design.

For the past thirty years, I have worked as a materials developer in the footwear industry. I was always drawn to the more unusual leathers that were not typically used in shoes, such as those with bright colors and large textures.

I began incorporating these leathers into my paintings and, as my process evolved, I acquired tools and equipment to help me create precise shapes and multiply them.

My work is intricate and time-consuming, as I pour my heart into every piece.

My style is abstract,

and I find inspiration in animals, folk art, and nature.

The vivid colors of Mexican alebrijes and Chinese art also influence my work.
I currently reside in Santa Fe, NM, where the expansive sky and the close proximity of clouds make me feel like I could dive right into them. This area is rich in Hispanic and Native American cultures, making it a truly enchanting place.

I have done a few pieces in collaboration with my niece Aimi, I appreciate the way she perceives form and figure in such a unique way, and I have learned to look at things differently through her eyes.

I am grateful every day for the opportunity to do what I love and create beautiful memories that will last a lifetime.
