Leather Mapping
Hand-cut leather pieces layered over acrylic base

Welcome to MAKI-CONCEPT

I am Maki — a mixed‑media artist based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. My work blends hand‑cut leather with paint on canvas through a technique I call Leather Mapping: hundreds of precisely cut leather pieces layered over an acrylic base. I create both abstract compositions and works inspired by the desert creatures and botanicals of the Southwest I now call home. Each piece is intricate, tactile, and crafted to endure.

With thirty years mastering materials in the global footwear industry, I carry an intimate understanding of texture, color, and precision. That experience now lives in my art — in surfaces that catch the eye from across a room and invite you to explore them up close.

Exhibiting at Spectrum Chicago · October 7–10 2026 · Booth 5113, SOLO Section
